Doc, I love you.

Not many people can say: "Back when I was just 80 I wrote my last book..."
But Chalmers M. Roberts can. And he actually did say so once, in an interview.
The book, published in 1991, was titled "How Did I Get Here So Fast?"
(For sure I didn't say that - How Did I Get Here So Fast? - a few weeks ago, when I got back to Nijmegen from Italy on my motorbike, after a 15 hours trip...)
But anyway, back to Chalmers M. Roberts. That's right, "back " is the word. He had some back problems, let's see how he dealt with this...

"The pads between the bones in my back are worn out, exposing the nerves, which caused
me, a couple years ago, excruciating back pains. My back doctor sent me to Sibley's pain center, where another doctor gave me a shot in exactly the right spot in my spine. This relieved the pain of my spinal stenosis for a couple of years, after which a second shot gave me another couple of years without hurting too much.

But when the pain again began to return and I asked my back doctor about a third shot, he began to talk to me about possible back surgery. I replied: Oh no, not at my age. I want a second opinion. So he sent me down to another back doctor. After he examined my MRI pictures, this doctor looked at me and said: At 92, with this back, no surgery. I said: Doc, I love you. "

By know you all know how much I loved and still love Bush....

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Kerry is "losing his cool." In 2000, the Bush campaign used similar language to portray rival Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) as potentially too unstable to run the country.

Kerry spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter said, "Mr. McClellan needs to understand that John Kerry is not the type of leader who will sit and read 'My Pet Goat' to a group of second-graders while America is under attack." On Sept. 11, 2001, Bush remained in a Florida classroom for several minutes after learning that planes had flown into the World Trade Center.

Is your name on the secret "no-fly" list ?

U.S. Sen. Edward M. "Ted" Kennedy said yesterday that he was stopped and questioned at airports on the East Coast five times in March because his name appeared on the government's secret "no-fly" list.

Federal air security officials said the initial error that led to scrutiny of the Massachusetts Democrat should not have happened even though they recognize that the no-fly list is imperfect. But privately they acknowledged being embarrassed that it took the senator and his staff more than three weeks to get his name removed.

A senior administration official, who spoke on condition he not be identified, said Kennedy was stopped because the name "T. Kennedy" has been used as an alias by someone on the list of terrorist suspects.

While he worked to clear himself, Kennedy kept having to wait in terminals at Reagan National, Boston's Logan International and at least one other airport, his staff said. When the senator checked in at the counter, airline employees told him they could not issue him a boarding pass because he appeared on the list. Kennedy was delayed until a supervisor could be summoned to identify him and give approval for him to board the plane.

The government does not make public the names or the total number of people on the list, which officials say is constantly updated.

Ad to Nav

No. I didn't choose it.

We used to have this at the top of 53. The white area would have Google Ads, that were supposed to be have ads that were similar to the blog.

The old ad bar was part of the agreement for BlogSpot and you could pay to get rid of it. I assume you can do the same with this new bar, but as I don't want to pay any money for this space, it will always be there. You can't get rid of it unless you FTP your blog.

It would be nice if you could choose which search engine you could use, but Google owns Pyra (maker of Blogger) so they can put whatever they want.

The new bar is definitely better than the old ad bar.

Update: Blogger was messed up for awhile there and ate a post.

The Search field in the Nav Bar is to search for things on this site. Just type in a query and hit go and it should take you there. This may not work for a bit, as we weren't being searched by Google. This works.

Thanks - my question was more around "did you choose to put it there" or was it placed there for you?

NavBar

Jeff it's the new BlogSpot bar. I don't think that you can add it to a non BlogSpot blog, but I am going to check.

Yep you can add it to any Blogger site. Just go to Template, you'll see the question at the top.

Search....

Mike - did you add that functionality or was it just automatically added by the Bloogle folks?

August 15 is . . .

. . . . National Relaxation Day and National Failures Day

From the movie GoodFellas.

(Mom) Why don't you get yourself a nice girl?
(Pesci) I get a nice one almost every night, mom.
(Mom) Yeah, but get yourself a girl so you could settle down!
(Pesci) I settle down almost every night but then in the morning I'm free! I love you, I wanna be with... I wanna be with you.

"At a point in every person's life, one has to look deeply into the mirror of one's soul and decide one's unique truth in the world, not as we may want to see it or hope to see it, but as it is."

"And so, my truth is that I am a gay American."

New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey.

Today, August 13.

13 is a lucky number. I was born on the 13th.

ok Jeff.
But what do you think about good-looking girls going out with guys who are quite far from being good-looking ??

When are we all going to play Scrabble again?

How do I feel? Hmmmm. Stephanie and I have been together for four-and-a-half years now, so it doesn't feel much different than it did before. We'd been shacked up together for 2 years already before the wedding, so that wasn't a factor either. All in all, not much feels different, I guess.

soo many times I see good-looking girls with guys who are quite far from being good-looking ... why is that??? Oh, by the way, no reference at all with the picture shown below.....

Anyway, back from Italy. I did it again. Actually I should say, the motorbike did it again. Quite an impressinve engine, this Kawasaki 250 cc of the KLR. For 15 hours straight, at full gas -this is what it takes to reach 130 km/h - it brought me safely from Milan to Nijmegen. I should write a letter to Mr Kawasaki, something like:

Dear Mr Kawasaki,
thank you for building such great motorbikes, especially the KLR 250, bla bla bla
